Feng Shui Tip | Can A Red Door Make Me Rich?

The following is a tip from Feng Shui Specialist Sam Plovie of QiPro Sam.

Can A Red Door Make Me Rich?

This question has generated a healthy income for many paint stores, and encouraged some rather tall tales! Can a gallon of red paint really pull this off? To answer that, we need to look around the world and understand where we’ve come from.

What is the history behind the colour red?

Red pigments were commonly used in cave paintings in France between 16,000 and 25,000 BC. Such story-telling on the cave walls was most often a warning of danger. Of course, things have come a long way since then. As far as favourite colours go, blue is actually the global favourite in modern day.

So why is there so much talk about red and money? And how did we move from red being a danger to red increasing wealth? Great Q’s, let’s dive in to reveal great answers!

Why China loves red doors:

People like to decorate with red on their front entrance around Chinese New Year for a couple reasons.

  1. To ward off an evil monster that would descend upon villages at New Year!

  2. To signify all debts are clear.

Clearly, the second version is much more family-friendly and took off as the ‘reason’ that everyone could get behind. You will see huge red doors with golden knobs you are to rub as you pass through for good luck!

Scotland has a practical approach to red doors:

Scotland views red on their front door as a way to announce paying off the home’s mortgage – nice! A reference to ‘out of the red’ which means out of overdraft. Overdraft notes recorded in red ink; ‘black’ ink meant a positive bank balance.

Ireland has a fun take on red doors:

Queen Victoria ordered everyone to paint their doors black to mourn King Albert. People refused and painted theirs red in rebellion.

There is also folklore symbolism with some choosing to believe a red front door warns off evil spirits and ghosts.

My favourite one though, is that red front doors make homes easily identifiable for people staggering home when drunk.

Does a red door have a religious meaning?

Some believe red is the blood sacrifices of Christ. Hebrew children rubbed red blood on their doorstep for protection. In some churches today, you may see a red door, considered a protection bestowed from God.

Very interesting how there is a theme throughout the world right…?

Ok, so that covers some basics, but we still haven’t uncovered the wealth connection…?

What is the connection between red doors & wealth?

The connection is Feng Shui. Feng Shui is the art and science of how a space will affect you. Your space divides into a map, a DNA code. Inside this DNA code is a series of numbers, and the most famous is the number ‘8.’ 8, is the current ‘wealth star’ that everyone wants to tap into. Interestingly enough, it’s also the ‘current health star’ many seek. 8 is an earth number, famous for its immobility. This is great for trust, loyalty and health, but not so great for speedy incremental wealth.

How do we change that? We bring a boost to speed things up and fire is that boost! Fire in Feng Shui is the colour red.

Should you paint your front door red for money and potentially a quick home sale?

Depends on your beliefs and what you wish to achieve. If we consider the folklore, you could clear some debts, ward off evil spirits and find your way home after one too many G & T’s!

From a real estate sale perspective, curb appeal is e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g and a red front door could be the exact boost that makes you stand out from the crowd!

From the Feng Shui perspective, if a Feng Shui professional has identified that is where your wealth 8 is; yes!

You are wise to paint your front door a glorious red indeed!
